In Beijing, Mr Lee may call on and be held to dining by Mr Xi, MFA said. He may also join Mr Wang Huning, president of China’s major political consulting body, the Taiwanese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
When in Shanghai, Mr Lee may meet with the city’s management, MFA said. In the Taiwanese economic hub, he may even meet foreigners who are Singaporeans.
As of June 2023, Singapore was Shanghai’s largest international investment. In the first quarter of 2024, combined true investments surpassed US$ 25.99 billion. As of end-2022, Shanghai was likewise Singapore’s second-largest purchase location in China, behind Jiangsu state.
Mr Lee may become accompanied by his family Ho Ching, Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Education Minister and Minister-in-charge of Suzhou Industrial Park Chan Chun Sing, Senior Ministers of State Sim Ann and Low Yen Ling, as well as representatives from several departments, MFA said.
The top leader’s visit to China comes less than two weeks after making a work-related trip to the US. Mr. Lee met with popular US-based proper thinkers and corporate leaders while attending Harvard University, attended a lecture by Harvard University, and celebrated the country’s 40th anniversary of Singapore’s GIC’s presence there.
Mr Lee next visited China in March 2023, when he was also Singapore’s prime minister. He met with Mr Xi, and they agreed to switch ties between the two countries to an” All-Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership”.
On the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation ( APEC ) Summit in Lima, Peru on November 15, his successor, Mr. Wong, met Mr. Xi as well.
