Singapore’s Temasek unveils S$44 billion ‘sustainable living’ portfolio

TOP CONTRIBUTORS TO PORTFOLIO Pollutants

Five companies – Singapore Airlines ( SIA ), Sembcorp Industries, Olam Group, PSA International and ST Telemedia – contributed around 80 per cent of Temasek’s total portfolio emissions. &nbsp,

These five businesses make up 10 % of the portfolio value. &nbsp,

These are organizations within industries that face “inherent decarbonisation challenges”, Temasek said, adding that the companies have &nbsp, made considerable progress in recent years.

For instance, despite the aircraft industry’s heavy reliance on fossil fuels, SIA invests in newer aircraft that are more fuel-efficient, the review noted. &nbsp,

Sembcorp Industries, which has committed to a “brown-to-green” investment change, is expanding its green energy investment.

Sembcorp Industries ‘ coal company Sembcorp Energy India was given a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by Temasek next year.

In contrast to the prior fiscal year, the price of the India product resulted in a 22 % reduction, or 6 MtCO2e, of Temasek’s total investment emissions in the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2024. &nbsp,

Temasek acknowledged the censure Sembcorp Industries received for a” change in restrictions” without necessarily lowering carbon pollution, but he stressed the need to put things in perspective. &nbsp,

Franziska Zimmermann, director of conservation and environment change strategy, said the company should have made a “decisive proper decision” to concentrate its operations on alternative energy by selling the India unit. &nbsp,

Sembcorp Industries has committed to stay working with the new user, said Ms Zimmermann. Temasek did provide&nbsp, financing tied to actual bonuses, so that the new owner may become incentivised to preserve reducing greenhouse gas emissions, she added. &nbsp,

” We understand the censure, but I think we need to see the bigger picture. We need to see the significant energy Sembcorp Industries has made.”
