SINGAPORE: On November 8th, the Lion City Sailors of Singapore defeated South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the AFC Champions League (ACL).
In what was lovely retaliation after losing to the same opponents 3–0 only a month earlier, the Seamen defeated the two-time ACL champions 2-0 in the Group F battle at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Richairo Zivkovic, a forth, found the target in the 23rd second, helping the guests to take the lead by 1-0 at halftime.
He scored again ten minutes after the break, with Shawal Anuar providing the support once more.
When the umpire gave Jeonbuk a spot-kick after the Seamen fouled in the penalty box, the customers came dangerously close to regaining control of the game.  ,
Gustavo Henrique da Silva Sousa, a Jeonbuk winger, however, launched the ball far and wide.
The Sailors, who finished second in the Singapore Premier League in 2023, are now back in argument for a spot in second year of Asia’s leading club football competition thanks to the unexpected victory.
They are currently fourth in Group F, six points behind Bangkok United and Jeonbuk, respectively.
The major teams from each group will expand to the 16-team round, along with the top three teams in each zone’s second-place.
In 2006 and 2016, Jeonbuk, who are already fifth in the K-League, won the Eastern Champions League. On nine times, they even triumphed in the K-League.
