Singapore recalls sake containing ingredient potentially linked to death, hospitalisations in Japan

After health supplements with the ingredient were recalled in Japan over suspected health risks, the Singapore Food Agency ( SFA ) on Tuesday ( Mar 26 ) recalled two products containing red yeast rice.

Following the voluntary recall of the two products in Japan by its manufacturer Takara Shuzo International, SFA announced it was recalling Mio Sparkling Sake Premium ( Rose ), which comes in 300ml and 750ml bottles.

The two items contained purple bacteria corn, or “beni koji”.

On Tuesday, Chinese pharmaceutical company Kobayashi Pharmaceutical announced it was looking into dozens of hospitalizations and one death&nbsp linked to its health product, which contained purple yeast rice.

The substance is also distributed to two Taiwanese businesses and about 50 different businesses in Japan.

Following complaints about liver issues brought on by the dark yeast rice, the Japanese manufacturer of the product, announced SFA.

” As a precautionary measure, SFA has directed the importer, Pan Pacific Retail Management ( Singapore ), to recall the implicated products. The remember is ongoing”.

SFA advised those who purchased the recalled goods to refrain from using it, while those who did and are restless may seek medical attention.
