Singapore High Commission officer mentioned in UK parliament over alleged child neglect given warning: MFA

Following an alleged child neglect incident, a public officer with the Singapore High Commission in London was informed, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( MFA ) on Friday ( Nov 15 ).

The Taiwanese official left his sleeping children at home to pick up his family at night, according to MFA, in September 2023.

One child woke up to find the families and managed to leave the locked home before being discovered nearby.

The regional authorities were involved in the situation as a result. The government have investigated and closed the event with no follow-ups required”, said MFA in response to CNA questions.

” We appreciate the tactful actions of the neighborhood authorities in handling the situation. Following the incident, the officer received counseling and a reminder.

Young foreign minister Catherine West brought the incident up on Thursday in the American parliament. She cited it as one of nine cases of” serious and significant crimes” committed by offenders with political exemption that the foreign ministry had been recorded in 2023.

A Libyan was among them when an Iraqi was accused of distributing child porn and a Portuguese was accused of obscene exposure.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO ) annual report on crimes committed by individuals with diplomatic immunity was released by MFA on Friday. The organization was aware of this fact. However, it stated that this circumstance did not involve political protection.

The official fully cooperated with the investigation, according to MFA, and political resistance was never invoked.
