SINGAPORE: The vehicles involved in a River Valley fatal accident , that killed a four- season- old woman earlier this year was not travelling at a fast rate as it was making a change, the coroner’s jury heard on Wednesday ( Jun 26 ).
Zara Mei Orlic passed away on January 23 after being struck by a vehicle that had veered directly into Institution Hill from River Valley Road.  ,
She passed away later that evening at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). According to an inquest report, the cause of suicide was a brain injury that was consistent with a motion in a motor vehicle.  ,
During the prosecutor’s inquiry on Wednesday, Customers Police Station Inspector Muhammad Firdaus Suleiman, the investigating officer of the case, told the judge of the studies detailed in an inspection report.
The judge also heard, among other things, that Zara’s families had told the girl to take a course that did not require her to “jaywalk” at Institution Hill, but the girl did not heed this training.
When Coroner Eddy Tham after inquired whether Zara was crossing a permitted passing zone, Mr. Firdaus claimed that there were no signs to avert pedestrian traffic.
Zara’s families, represented by attorney Alfred Lim, were both present in court, as were the attorneys for the vehicle.
Aside from Zara, the partners has two sons, with Zara being the middle child. The home resided in an Aspen Heights apartment along Institution Hill.
A single-lane, two-way path that enters Institution Hill from River Valley Road. Numerous vehicles were waiting to make a change from Institution Hill to River Valley Road at the time of the injury.  ,
The girl has been with the community since October 2023, according to Mr. Firdaus.
The eldest takes a university vehicle, while the younger one is expected to pick up the two younger children.  ,
The girl had been walking Zara and her younger sister along River Valley Road, which is about 10 minutes from their home, on January 23.  ,
The girl, who was carrying the girls ‘ college bags, admitted to never holding Zara’s side, as she was an “independent baby” who walked forward.  ,
The family had recently instructed the girl to use the signalized commuter crossing closer to Institution Hill, according to Mr. Firdaus.  , If she had done so, she would not have had to cross the road at Institution Hill, which , does not have signalised motorist bridges.
But, the lady used the signalised passing nearer to the girls ‘ pre- school rather, which would have required her to mix Institution Hill to get to the condominium.
According to Mr. Firdaus, Zara’s parents were unaware why the maid had gone against their wishes that day.  ,
However, he also noted during proceedings that the maid had used this particular route “frequently”.
At 4.57pm, the police received a call about the accident.  ,
The driver, 40, whose name was not revealed during the proceedings, had been on the way home after fetching her children.
Zara ran across the front of her car as she made a right turn into Institution Hill. Before coming to a stop, the car struck the child and ran over her.  ,
The driver claimed that Zara had only been spotted by her car and that she had only felt it hit and run over something. She then heard a loud scream and looked into her rearview mirror only to realize she had struck someone.  ,
Zara was lying motionless on the road when she rushed to her.  ,
The driver remained at the scene until they arrived, but the authorities were alerted.  ,
Zara was taken to Singapore General Hospital, where she later died. For trauma, the maid was treated separately. CNA is aware that she is still a member of the family.  , According to the maid, she had screamed for the car to stop, but to no avail.  , She then informed Zara’s father of the accident.
