SINGAPORE: After “red discharge” was spotted in a canal in , Kembangan on two occasions,  , National Environment Agency ( NEA ) officers tracked the runoff to a car washing and grooming company.
In response to inquiries from CNA, NEA reported on Thursday ( October 24 ) that the red discharge had been spotted on October 13 and October 17.  ,
On the first event,  , National officials surveilled the river the next day.
Prior to the investigations, yet, there had been heavy rains, and the liquid in the river was found to be normal on Oct 14, with no evidence of the red release, said NEA.
The company added that the water’s pH and dissolved oxygen levels were even found to be in the normal ranges.
When once informed of the dark discharge on the night of October 17, NEA officers checked it the following morning and, if possible, connected it to a business that offered car wash and grooming services.
According to NEA, the business was instructed to immediately stop the transfer into the available drain and clear up the public empties that were affected by their release.
National stated that it takes a serious, broad view of waste in Singapore’s lakes and that the business is facing legal action for an offense under the Environmental Protection and Management Act.
