Public warned against fake government websites

Cybercriminals create convincing homepages to steal private data and even crack devices

People are being cautioned to remain vigilant against websites imitating the homepages of government agencies with the intentions of steal sensitive information and carry out financial scams.

Cybercriminals are hosting fake government internet sites to intercept people’s data or even crack into their mobile devices, deputy government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said upon Friday.

Thai government website URLs only result in “. go. th” and not “. com”, she said.

She introduced an example of one deceptive website with the WEB ADDRESS https://afdw7.com, where customers are urged to perform a download. Its creators were attempting to intercept traffic to the actual Revenue Department website, www.rd.go.th .

A fake Division of Special Analysis (DSI) website using the URL www.dsi-th.com was also pointed out. The page includes a link to down load and install a software named “DSI Security System” that requires users to enter their personal information and receive an One-Time Passcode (OTP). The application itself starts siphoning user information upon installation and can even be used by its creators to take power over an user’s device.

The particular DSI website is certainly www.dsi.go.th .

“Victims of these fake websites or any on the web financial scam might file a report with the Royal Thai Police’s Police Cyber Taskforce at thaipoliceonline. com and they will organize with the relevant police agencies to block any financial dealings and prepare further legal action, ” Ms Rachada mentioned.

Most online crimes, which includes violations of the Computer Crimes Act, lovemaking offences or betting may also be reported to the task force with the hotline 1441 and to the 08-1866-3000 contact centre, which each operate 24 hours a day, the lady added.
