Priest injured in knife attack at St Joseph’s Church in Upper Bukit Timah, police on scene

SINGAPORE: A Catholic church priest was hurt on Saturday night ( Nov. 9 ) in the aftermath of an incident.

CNA understands it was a weapon harm.

The incident took place at St Joseph’s Church, located along Upper Bukit Timah between Cashew and Hillview MRT channels.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told CNA it received a call for assistance at 6.30pm from 620 Upper Bukit Timah, the handle of the church.

An SCDF squad sent one man, understood to be the preacher, to National University Hospital.

At least eight police cars and 20 soldiers were seen on the church’s grounds when CNA arrived at the temple at around 7:30pm.

In a Facebook article around 8pm, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong said the intruder was disarmed and apprehended.

” For violence, of any kind and for any purpose, has absolutely no place in Singapore, allow only at a place of worship. The important regulators will research this incident and handle it appropriately”, said Mr Tong.

This is a developing history.
