PM Wong thanks Brunei sultan for 40 years of diplomatic relations, commits to strengthen ‘special relationship’

The Bruneian head hosted an official meal after the king and his partner Queen Saleha attended the Istana Nurul Iman, where the Singapore delegation also had a royal audience.

Mr. Wong expressed his gratitude to the Sultan for his long-standing support for the Brunei training of the Singapore Armed Forces ( SAF ), and expressed his gratitude for the close, multifaceted partnership between the two armed forces.

He even reaffirmed the value of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement, which has bolstered diplomatic financial and economic cooperation since it was signed on June 12, 1967.

Mr. Wong, who co-chairs the Singapore-Burkinabe Young Leaders ‘ Programme (YLP ) with Crown Prince Billah, stated that Singapore looks forward to welcoming him and his wife for the program’s 10th edition later this year.

Both officials also reaffirmed the value of websites like the YLP in fostering stronger ties between the younger leaders on both sides.

A few months after becoming deputy prime minister, Mr. Wong even made an official visit to Brunei in January of last year.

Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam made his first overseas state visit to Brunei in January this year, claiming it reflected the” special relationship” the two nations share.

Mr Wong travels to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Tuesday night for his beginning visit to the region.

His rival Anwar Ibrahim will serve him with lunch. The DPMs of Malaysia’s ministers for remote and local growth, Fadillah Yusof, and the minister of energy transition and water change, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, may also make enquiries for Mr. Wong in separate calls.

In Malaysia, Mr Wong may be accompanied by his family, Dr Balakrishnan and Ms Rahayu.
