Suspect arrested over stabbing of four Americans in China

BEIJING: &nbsp, A suspect has been arrested over the stabbing of four American college teachers in northeastern China, police said on Tuesday ( Jun 11 ), with Beijing describing the attack as an “isolated” incident.

The four teachers at Iowa’s Cornell College, which claimed they suffered” severe injuries” while on an intellectual exchange, worked there.

The attack occurred on Monday in a public garden in Jilin state, where authorities confirmed they had arrested a 55-year-old person.

” The suspect, named Mr Cui, was arrested the same day ( as the attack )”, the local police said.

Beijing confirmed earlier on Tuesday that “four international teachers” had been attacked.

” All the wounded were taken to hospital… and received proper treatment. At the international ministry’s regular afternoon press conference, spokesman Lin Jian stated to reporters that none of them were at risk of peril.

The policeman “preliminarily determined that the situation was isolated,” the police said. More research is underway”.

” China is usually acknowledged as one of the safest countries in the world,” Lin continued.

He declared that” China will continue to take appropriate steps to properly protect the safety of all foreigners in China.”

” This secluded situation will not have an impact on the typical growth of China-US people-to-people exchanges.”
