PM Wong congratulates India’s Modi on re-election win

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has written to India’s Narendra Modi to congratulate him on his reappointment as prime minister, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday ( Jun 10 ).

On June 4, Mr. Modi won India’s weeks-long general election by claiming an all-important parliamentary majority from his Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP). His second word as prime minister will be here.

Mr. Wong noted that over the past ten years, Mr. Modi” shepherded India’s extraordinary transformation and uplifted the lives of millions of people” in a welcome letter to his rival on Sunday.

” I am convinced that under your command, India will continue to grow and prosper”, said Mr Wong.

He also mentioned the proper partnerships between Singapore and India, which he described as “warm and varied relationships.”

” As we look forward to the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties next season, we will continue to engage tightly to increase this partnership and increase our collaboration in new areas like digitalisation, skilling, and care”.

Mr. Wong expressed his gratitude for Mr. Modi’s success and good health, and that he was looking forward to meeting him again and working up to strengthen relationships.
