Philippines accuses Chinese coast guard of ‘barbaric’ blocking of medical evacuation

The Philippine coast guard criticized its Chinese counterpart for halting evacuation of a sick armed forces member in the South China Sea on Friday ( Jun 7 ) and called it “barbaric and inhumane.

A part of a small force of marines who were stationed to watch the BRP Sierra Madre, a Philippine ship, was involved in the incident, which the Philippines claimed took place last fortnight. The ship has been anchored at the disputed Second Thomas Shoal, the page of repeated clashes with China over the past season.

Despite telling them the activity was medical-related, Philippine Coast Guard and military plastic boats were harassed, according to spokesperson Jay Tarriela.

The China beach guard’s “barbaric and cruel behavior has no position in our society,” Tarriela said in a statement.

China’s Philippine ambassador did not respond to a request for comment right away.
