In Islamabad’s first response to the election results across the border, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated India’s Narendra Modi on being sworn in as prime minister for a third term on Monday ( Jun 10 ).
” Felicitations to @narendramodi on taking swear as the Prime Minister of India,” Sharif wrote in a blog on X, a moment after Modi took his oath and nearly a month after election results were announced on June 4.
Modi sworn in on Sunday for a document second name after a surprise election setback, losing his overwhelming majority and relying on local parties for assistance in his first coalition government.
India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed neighbors, have waged two war and staged many clashes, primarily over control of the Kashmir area in the Himalayas.
Since India split Jammu and Kashmir into two officially administered provinces in 2019, there have been no closer ties between the two.
New Delhi invited leaders of seven geographical locations to Sunday’s great opening at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, or government’s house, in New Delhi but Sharif was n’t included.
