Packed agenda awaits PM at Asean summit in Laos

On October 8 to 11 in Vientiane, Laos, the Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will attend the 44th and 45th Asean Delegations and related conferences.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, this will be the president’s first intergovernmental visit to another country since she took the top position.

While she is there, she did hold intergovernmental meetings with Sonexay Siphandone, prime minister of Laos, and Xaysomphone Phomvihane, president of the National Assembly of Laos.

She may also give a courtesy call on Thongloun Sisoulith, chairman of Laos and secretary-general of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

Mr Paetongtarn will examine ways to enhance the Thailand–Laos Strategic Partnership for Growth and Sustainable Development, particularly in financial assistance, travel accessibility and hospitality, and water asset management in the Mekong River. Whether or not the new storms may be raised is unknown.

She may also discuss how both countries may help solve intergovernmental issues like drug smuggling, website scams, human trafficking, and the persistent haze problem, among other local issues.

The prime minister will enter the delegations under the style” Asean: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, the department said.

During the delegations, she did participate in both Asean Leaders ‘ meetings and discussions with Asean’s Dialogue Partners, notably China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, India, the United States, Canada and the United Nations.

Also, the top may take part in Asean Leaders ‘ Interface with the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, Asean Business Advisory Council, and Asean Youth, and the 2nd Asia Zero Emission Community Leaders ‘ Meeting.

Additionally, diplomatic sessions with a number of other leaders have been scheduled.
