Officials to head to Laos for rail talks

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob will business lead a high-level group of government authorities to Laos to talk about the construction of the railway that will connect Thailand, Laos and China.

The team — coined Team Thailand 7 — is going to be in Laos through Aug 30 to Sept 1 to meet high-ranking Lao authorities and entrepreneurs regarding constructing the train from Nong Khai province to Vientiane, Laos.

The team comprises officials from the Transportation Ministry, Finance Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Business, Ministry of Sector, Ministry of Public Health plus personal sector representatives.

Mr Saksayam said the check out aims to study locations along the route for transportation and infrastructure construction.

Moreover, the future railway is expected to provide a quantity of services for each passenger and freight purposes.

As part of the project, a bridge will also be constructed across the Mekong.

“The Division of Highways is definitely assigned to design the 2nd bridge crossing the Mekong at Nong Khai-Vientiane. The research process will cost 10 mil baht and take approximately six months to accomplish, ” Mr Saksayam said.

He also stated the bridge ought to facilitate transborder traveling through a dual-track and high-speed rail crossing that should also support vehicles.

Mr Saksayam furthermore said he had requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to look into the China-Laos train which is a single-track series system.

He said that Excellent Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was concerned that this rail system in Thailand would not become compatible with it.
