The opposition has demanded that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation’s continuous director respond to a claim that he traveled abroad 32 times between March of last year and September of this year.

Following MP Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn’s request for information about his travels from the Move Forward Party, Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi claimed to have instructed Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, the everlasting secretary, to reveal his international trips.

Ms. Supamas, who is scheduled to arrive at the department on September 15, stated that she will handle the situation simply but has not yet heard Dr. Sirirurg’s account of what happened.

Mr. Wiroj claimed to have gathered data on the MHESI continuous secretary’s 32 international trips over the previous 18 months on his Facebook account. Some trips’ costs were estimated to be 5 million ringgit.

In order to maintain accountability and transparency in public spending, he asked Ms. Supamas to launch an investigation to find out if these visits had taken area, what they were for, and whether they had been necessary for supervisory work.

The opposition MP declared that he would appeal the National Anti-Corruption Commission to look into any indications of abnormalities in the investing.

Despite reports that Dr. Sirirurg was in the United States attending an annual conference from September 6 to 10, he could not be reached for comment monday.

According to a source in the MHESI, the permanent secretary is scheduled to travel to Mexico from September 11 – 16 and Australia from Sept 24 – 30.
