North Korea sends 600 more trash balloons over border, South says

SEOUL: North Korea sent around 600 balloons carrying trash into South Korea overnight, Seoul said on Sunday ( Jun 2 ), in Pyongyang’s latest move to rile its rival neighbour.

According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, balloons carrying wastes like cigarette butts, material, paper waste, and vinyl were discovered throughout the capital between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.

The military claimed that it was conducting aerial surveillance to find and obtain the bubbles, which have big bags of debris suspended beneath them, and that it was monitoring the starting point.

As what it called “gifts of sincerity,” North Korea on Wednesday sent thousands of balloons carrying filth and feces across the strongly fortified border. Seoul responded violently, calling the walk center and dangerous.

On Sunday, people in North Gyeongsang and Gangwon regions and some elements of Seoul were given emergency alerts to stop coming into contact with the bubbles and to call the police.

The National Security Council standing commission in South Korea will meet on Sunday afternoon to discuss whether to continue blasting headphones at North Korea in response to the garbage balloons, according to Yonhap news agency, citing the president’s office.

Following a unique conference with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, South Korea decided to stop blaring advertising across the border in 2018.
