Nicoll Highway collapse: 20 years on, colleagues remember 'Hero Heng' who lost his life saving others

SINGAPORE: Twenty times does have passed, but past colleagues still remember their director, whom they tenderly call Hero Heng.

They gather at a memorial services on April 20 to pay tribute to Mr. Heng Yeow Pheow, who lost his life while saving his employees from the Nicoll Highway decline in 2004.

Although his brain was not discovered, many people still hold his legacy dearly in their hearts.

“My heart ( is ) very sad. I don’t say something. ( It has been a ) long time but I still remember. I wo n’t forget, ” said Mr Phornamdaeng Thiticha.  

Mr Thiticha, along with seven people, were pulled to health by Mr Heng as their site crumbled during the event.

The director stayed put to make sure his men were protected in the face of potentially fatal risk.
