Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil. in a Facebook post announced the appointment of Mohamad Salim Fateh Din as Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for two years effective 1 March 2023. He takes over from Muhammad Azmi Zain who ended his service as Interim Chairman of the commission yesterday.
“I believe his appointment will help to overcome communication infrastructure issues, including for the 3% of the population who still do not have access to the internet, to overcome the digital divide and drive Malaysia towards a ‘golden digital decade’” wrote Fahmi.
Salim was previously a member of the MCMC Board of Directors. He was also an ‘Interim Chairman’ of MCMC from June 2022 to January 2023 and holds various corporate positions including Group Managing Director of Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) and founder of Group Gapurna Sdn Bhd as well as Non-Executive Chairman of Giant Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the MCMC has welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that Salim’s corporate experience gives him the advantage to strengthen MCMC’s role and grow the country’s digital ecosystem.
