She had to go through more than 10 years of clinical school, apprenticeship, and specialized residency training to become a board-certified animal physician, one of only around 500 like professionals worldwide.
To help pay for her animal studies, she needed to work four part-time jobs as a live-in clinical nurse, pet shop assistant, school tutor, and lab demonstrator to assist offset the high costs.
During her residency training in Australia, she actually set out on an ambitious mission to find a treatment for canine corneal vascular degeneration, a condition that causes swelling and humidity, which impairs vision and, in extreme cases, causes blindness.
This typically occurs in older dogs or varieties with a genetic disposition. Although it is less prevalent, cats may also be affected by the state.
In 2015 to 2018, Dr. Boo worked on an adaptation of a human clinical technique for a limited canine cornea transplant, and as part of her innovation, created the medical device – Boo-K9 AAC, which is named after her, to change the cornea’s broken region. Her method is still being employed all over the world.
