SINGAPORE: A 45-year-old man was arrested on Friday (Jul 8) for his thought involvement in inciting violence against Excellent Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
“The police received a report (at about several. 10pm) on a risk inciting violence contrary to the Prime Minister within the comment section of the Facebook page of Asia on the news on the shooting of the previous Japanese Prime Minister, ” said the police in a news release.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Main Police Division established the identity of the Facebook user.
The person was arrested within five hours of the report, said the authorities, adding that a laptop computer, a tablet plus four handphones had been seized.
Police inspections are ongoing.
Anyone convicted of the offence of making or even communicating any digital record containing any kind of incitement to violence face up to five years’ jail, a fine, or both.
