A 35-year-old construction worker was killed on Wednesday ( Aug 28 ) after being struck by a reversed dump truck at a work site near the Changi East development and Tanah Merah Coast Road, according to the Ministry of Manpower ( MOM).
Around 6 o’clock on Wednesday, the authorities and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) claimed to have been called to the scene. The construction contractor, a Taiwanese national, was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF nurse.
A 36-year-old male was arrested for causing death by a rash or careless act, said the policeman, adding that investigations are ongoing.
According to an MOM director in response to CNA’s questions on Friday, the building contractor was employed by Hua Hao Development while Huationg Contractor is the site’s owner.
A traffic management plan, as well as a skilled banksman, must be put into place as a public safety measure to ensure the healthy movement of vehicles and pedestrians at work, according to the spokesperson.
The spokesperson added that MOM is looking into the event as well.
