Malaysia’s 2023 budget to be tabled on Oct 7, three weeks earlier than scheduled

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Section Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar confirmed that Malaysia’s 2023 spending budget will be tabled upon Oct 7.  

This is three weeks sooner than the original date of Oct 28.  

“Confirmed, ” the minister in charge of parliament and law wrote in an information when asked simply by CNA on Fri (Aug 26).  

English day-to-day the Star reported that the Cabinet had been informed of the choice by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Friday.  

Malaysiakini quoted Dr Wan Junaidi as saying that the parliament meeting will begin on Oct three or more.  

Based on the parliament website, the third parliament meeting for the year has been planned to be held through Oct 26 in order to Dec 15.  

United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a main component celebration in the ruling coalition, has intensified the calls for the knell of parliament to pave the way for your next general election.  

The particular 15th general election is not due till September next year, but UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi continues to be putting pressure on Mr Ismail Sabri, a vice president of UMNO, for the snap poll.  

The decision to bring forward the tabling of the 2023 spending budget is an indication the fact that general election is going to be called soon, based on the Star’s report.
