Lee Shau-kee: Hong Kong property tycoon dies aged 97

Lee Shau-kee, a magnate of Hong Kong property and once the richest person in Asia, passed away at the age of 97.

His house company Henderson Land Development, which he served as chairman for more than 40 times, made the announcement.

Lee had passed away “in the business of his family,” according to a statement from the company, which did not give a reason.

One of the state’s wealthiest men was him. Forbes estimated his net worth at just under$ 30 billion ( £ 23 billion ) in February.

Lee was a young man who started his business in Hong Kong before moving to China’s southwestern Guangdong Province and settling in real property.

Along with two other founders, he founded Sun Hung Kai Properties ( SHKP), one of the city’s largest property developers, in 1958.

Lee, the third eldest of his relatives, was known as” Uncle Four,” but he made a name for himself in 1976 when his two sons purchased Henderson Land Development, which he took over after his retirement in 2019.

He was named the fifth richest person in the world in 1996 and the richest people in Asia.

He also donated a lot to learning centers and to initiatives aimed at promoting job creation and was a charity. He was honored with the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2007 in acknowledgment of his social achievements and was given Hong Kong’s highest honor, the Grand Bauhinia Medal.

According to the city’s Chief Executive John Lee,” Dr. Lee was an excellent business leader and innovator who had made significant contributions to Hong Kong’s economic growth, as well as the city’s prosperity and stability.”
