Journalists group denies taking bribe

The Thai Journalists Association ( TJA ) denied yesterday that its vice president, who had the initial W, had received money from an illegal online gambling network.

Responding to the allegations, Wattanachai Yanintorn, the TJA’s vice president for welfare and member relations, said he was n’t the TJA vice president with the initial W.

However, Mr. Wattanachai, who took over the vice president’s place on March 2, claimed he was the only TJA vice chairman whose first name was W.

However, attorney Sittra Biabungkerd, who made the claims, said yesterday the reward seeker with the original W is a former TJA vice president, not a current one.

Mr Sittra even said the previous TJA vice president’s pay- using was a matter of personal wrongdoing and was n’t do linked to the organization.

Actually though a preliminary investigation by the TJA found no connections between the illegitimate online gaming system and any members of the TJA, the organization would welcome any further inquiries by an outside group.

The TJA does n’t hold a Kasikorn Bank account, as mentioned in the lawyer’s accusation as being used to receive the bribe payment, said Mr Jeerapong.

He claimed that the TJA has not received any cash payment, adding that the organization only receives payment via bank transfers and cashier’s checks.
