Japan warns on surge in potentially deadly strep throat cases

Tokyo: Chinese health officials have issued a warning about a rise in potentially fatal sore throat infections, which are cases that are three times higher than those reported in Tokyo next year.

According to a health ministry statement earlier this month, infection of the streptococcus bacteria of the neck are being diagnosed at double the rate of the last five decades.

Japan recorded 474 cases of the more serious streptococcal toxic shock syndrome ( SSTS), which has a fatality rate of up to 30 % as of March 10. This condition occurs when the disease spreads throughout the body, leading to tissue loss.

According to Hitoshi Honda, a professor of infectious disease at Fujita Health University, the illness is never a respiratory disease like COVID- 19, which makes it unlikely to cause a pandemic situation.

” This is a drop infection”, Honda said. ” Hand health is incredibly important for preventing aggressive staph diseases.”

The North Korean football team reportedly had to immediately withdraw a World Cup qualifier meet in Japan last year due to the rise in cases.
