Japan to allocate US$140 million more to help fisheries after China’s import ban

TOKYO: Following China’s complete import ban on Japanese aquatic products, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced on Monday( Sep 4 ) that the government would allocate an additional 20.7 billion yen($ 141.41 million ) to support the fisheries industry.

Japan began releasing treated nuclear water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant next month, which prompted the ban.

In order to help create new markets and keep extra seafood frozen until they can be sold when need returns, among other things, the government had previously established two funds totaling 80 billion yen.

According to Kishida, with the extra money from budget reserves, support had complete 100.7 billion yen.
