Tokyo, Japan: On Friday ( Mar 21 ), a panel of experts gave advice to greater Tokyo residents to stay indoors if Mount Fuji erupts.
Researchers convened by the Cabinet Office sent the recommendations to the state’s more than 44 million people.
In situation the 3, 776m mountain were to erupt, the board also demanded that local governments and families keep emergency products like food and water.
The final eruption of Mount Fuji occurred in 1707.
A large eruption of Japan’s highest peak may spew 30 cm of dust or more over Tokyo, which is located about 100 kilometers north of the volcano, in the worst case scenario, the panel predicted.
According to the report, this much ashfall may cause sturdy homes to collapse, especially if they were combined with rain, prompting residents to flee in such cases.
Large buildings are expected to suffer destruction, including school gyms that are frequently used as evacuation centers, even with less serious ashfall, according to the report.
The panels stated that the simplest concept is to remain as far away from the ashfall as possible and to continue living in places like home.
In situations where there is a risk to life, such as extreme house harm, evacuation and other options should be taken into account, it continued.
The panel stressed the necessity of having emergency supplies in stock because ashfall may cause delays in supply deliveries.
According to the report, power outages and disruption to wireless signals are anticipated, especially when ashfall and weather mix together.
The board said that the water quality could also get worse and that cars would not be able to travel on ash-covered routes.
The board made it clear that their statement did not mention the possible size or timing of the supervolcano upcoming eruption or ashfall.
