SINGAPORE: Transport operator SMRT, the Land Transport Authority ( LTA ) and French train maker Alstom are working together after the Thomson-East Coast Line ( TEL ) was hit by , three disruptions in a week.
In a late Friday ( Jan 3 ) Facebook post, SMRT stated that engineers are looking into the causes of the incidents that occurred on December 27, December 29, and January 2, respectively, adding that none of the delays were related to any particular delay.
The earliest disturbance was caused by a signal fault, which meant “multiple trains received quit commands and had to be physically driven at 18kph after program resets,” according to the statement.
The “intermittent suspensions” on Dec 27 had spanned over 2.5 hours and caused a pause of up to 15 minutes.
On the Dec 29 event, SMRT said it involved a coach experiencing “intermittent brake failings” as it departed a place.
Due to the slower trains ‘ movements, this caused a 15-minute wait for travellers traveling from Bayshore to Woodlands North.
” In line with health protocols, the coach was mechanically operated at 18kph”, SMRT added. ” The wrong cleared immediately, allowing regular coach services to resume quickly after”.
Primary findings, according to SMRT, point to a potential element fault in the train.
With regards to the Jan 2 event, SMRT said a , coach had triggered the emergency brake structure as it approached Orchard MRT place, requiring regular function.
Due to a station wrong, travellers were then advised to element in an extra 10 moments for their journey from the Caldecott and Bayshore MRT stations. The problem was cleared within 30 days.
Studies into the root cause are continuing, SMRT added, noting that train , companies continued operating in both guidance during all three situations.
A separate probe into the , upheaval of train services, which occurred over six weeks last September,  , on the East-West Range between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations , is now continued.
According to LTA, those studies are anticipated to be finished in a few weeks.
The fifth stage of the , Thomson-East Coast Line , ( TEL4 )- comprising Sea Parade, Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore facilities- opened next June.
By 2026, the second stage of the line, which connects Bayshore and Sungei Bedok, will be finished, and a second extension, which will attach the TEL to Changi Airport, will be finished in the middle of the 2030s, along with the opening of Terminal 5, will be finished.
