India’s Modi lands in Russia for first visit since Ukraine offensive

Since then, India has abstained from publicly condemning Russia and has abstained from all U.N. commitments that censured Moscow.

But Russia’s struggle with Ukraine has also had a mortal charge for India.

Following reports that some of its people were forced to fight in Ukraine, New Delhi announced in February that it was pushing the Kremlin to take some of its citizens back. Some had signed up for” support work” with the Russian army.

Moscow’s deepening ties with China have also been a cause for concern.

China is accused of selling parts and equipment that have bolstered Russia’s defense industry by Washington and the European Union, a charge Beijing vigorously refutes.

China and India are fiercely entrenched in a battle for proper control in South Asia.

India belongs to the US, Japan, and Australia, which aligns itself with China’s growing confidence in the Asia-Pacific place.

OIL AND ARMS

Since the Cold War, New Delhi and the Kremlin have been in close contact, and Russia has long been India’s largest arms supplier.

However, Russia’s hands supply has been stretched by Ukraine, which has compelled India to look elsewhere for weapons, including building its own defense market.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Russia’s communicate of American arms exports has decreased significantly in recent years.

After being cut off from traditional European buyers, India has also grown to be a big buyer of Russian crude. This gives Moscow a much-needed trade market.

That has significantly altered power relationships, resulting in India sapping billions of dollars and bolstering Moscow’s war fund.
