Govt agencies urged to address ‘illegal dumps’

Suchart Tancharoen, Vice Leader of the House of Representatives, is urging government agencies to address unlawful rubbish dumps in Chachoengsao’s Chai Khet district.

On Sunday, Mr Suchart posted on his Facebook page saying that he had brought twenty students from Japan’s Kagoshima University to Ban Na Noi village in the region to survey the dumping of dangerous waste in the area.

Attached to the particular post were characters of complaint he had sent out in December towards the prime minister, inside minister, industry ressortchef (umgangssprachlich), environment minister and the director-general of the Pollution Control Department.

In the letters, it is stated that Ban Na Noi villagers had called for motion to solve the illegal dumping by industrial plants.

The waste has reportedly contaminated reservoirs, especially ones near Khlong Rabom and Khlong Ta Lad, which are upstream natural reservoirs in the state.

This particular matter has not been widely addressed by any kind of government agency, Mr Suchart said.

“A laboratory test reveals that the waste contains utilized petroleum oil launched by industrial businesses, creating air pollution, ” he said. “Exposure to this toxicity can lead to cancer. ”

According to a source, provincial administrations have got acknowledged the issue yet cannot address it due to financial restrictions.

Furthermore, no legal proceeding has been made against the owners of business plants, who are accountable for the hazardous waste materials dumps in the area, the source said.

The plants are usually backed by important local politicians involved with illegal oil smuggling in the eastern area of Thailand, the source said.
