GE2025: Amenities, connectivity in Tengah have improved; could become ‘better than Punggol’, says PM Wong

SMC SPLIT GRASSROOTS ARE READY FOR

Mr. Wong and Dr. Khor traveled to Bukit Batok West Hawker Center, which was officially inaugurated this month, following the Tengah Community Club’s start.

Mr. Wong interacted with customers at the stall center, many of whom posed for photos with him. He therefore made a visit to the stall center next to Harmony Village@Bukit Batok, where residents were staying.

Harmony Village@Bukit Batok, which was inaugurated in 2021, is Singapore’s initial public housing project for assisted living.

In order to participate in the recently formed Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC for this year’s General Election, the stall center and its surrounding property are located within the portion of Hong Kah North SMC. &nbsp,

Polling districts from the former Yuhua SMC, which are now led by Grace Fu, the secretary for sustainability and the environment, did join Mr. Wong and Mr. Fu will visit on Saturday.

Dr. Khor responded to the media’s question about Ms. Fu’s appearance by saying,” She would like to get to hear Hong Kah North better because she’s really not familiar with this area.”

Ms. Fu stated in a radio interview this week that she wants to learn more about Hong Kah North and its people in the upcoming weeks.

Dr. Khor noted that some people in the west, as well as Singaporeans, are already familiar with Ms. Fu given her supervisory position.

” But of course, I will introduce her ( to residents ) when she comes here, wherever possible.”

Ms. Chua and Ms. Melissa Tan have recently been spotted on the ground in the south, at Fengshan SMC and East Coast GRC, and both have been seen in the north Coast GRC.

When CNA inquired about the presence of these fresh faces at the event earlier in the day, Dr. Khor responded that topic to group leaders.

She even discussed Hong Kah North for a long time.

She served the hospital after it became an SMC in 2011 and participated in the Hong Kah North GRC groups in the 2001 and 2006 public elections.

She described her experience as “humbling, but very significant and satisfying” and said she was proud to witness former Edusave award recipients grow up, begin families, and decide to remain in the constituency.

Given that Hong Kah North SMC will get absorbed into two GRCs, Dr. Khor reiterated that Mr. Wong’s responsibility for making vote implementation choices lies with him when he is the PAP’s secretary-general.

” But in the meantime, I’ll keep focusing on serving the Hong Kah North people,” said Dr. Khor, thanking her for her enviable network of community individuals.

She continued, adding that given the population growth, she and the community organizations had anticipated that the area would be” cut up.”

” We have been able to, happily, recruit new volunteers from among the people,” she said.

” And we have really divided up the grassroots, so that there is a team that cares for Tengah, a team that cares for Bukit Batok West, and there is even a group that really cares for the older portion of Hong Kah North.”
