Foreign minister to discuss cybersecurity with Blinken

WASHINGTON DC: Foreign Affairs Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara will discuss cybersecurity cooperation with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in light of reports which claimed scammers have been posing as Thai diplomats to target unsuspecting victims.

The Thai ambassador to the United States, Tanee Sangrat, said the issue was raised when Mr Parnpree met with Thai embassy officials on Sunday.

Several scammers have pretended to represent the Thai consulate general in Los Angeles to convince their victims over the phone, Mr Tanee said.

Because of the United States’ excellent cybersecurity capabilities, Mr Parnpree will ask for US cooperation on the matter during the meeting with his American counterpart.

According to Mr Tanee, Mr Parnpree might also discuss the issue with Chris Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, The Pacific and International Cybersecurity Policy.
