Travellers typically fret more than whether to pay for additional luggage to trolley home that extra holiday shopping.

But one man who travelled to the United Kingdom from Burkina Faso in February 2013 had a monumental 94kg with him.

And that has been just in dried caterpillars.  

UK Border Power officers detected hundreds and hundreds of the shrink-wrapped bugs in the man’s baggage at London’s Gatwick airport Airport after he or she arrived from Western Africa by way of Istanbul.

The 22-year-old claimed that they were for personal consumption because food.

He escaped with a warning, and the caterpillars were seized and delivered off to be damaged.

“This has been an unusual seizure, however the vigilance of our officials has stopped these types of dried insects through entering the UK, and perhaps posing a risk to our food string, ” an official said at the time.

“I would warn travellers not to attempt to bring any products of animal origin into the UK without a permit, as they may not are inspected to appropriate standards and may consist of diseases. ”

200 LIVE TARANTULAS

A magnet or a keychain would certainly usually suffice for the majority of travellers when it comes to souvenirs, but that merely wasn’t enough for one German couple to remember their holiday in Peru back in 2012.

According to AFP, the pair were captured at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport with 200 live tarantulas  along with grasshoppers, crickets plus millipedes.

The particular creepy-crawlies were carried in plastic storage containers and tubes hidden amongst the couples’ clothing and shoes.

A criminal case was opened against the couple, while their own unconventional keepsakes had been handed over to pet welfare authorities.
