SINGAPORE: Upset that he was fired, an employee hacked into his former company’s computer systems and deleted 180 virtual servers, costing them about S$ 918, 000 ( US$ 678, 000 ). &nbsp,

Kandula Nagaraju, 39, was sentenced to two years and six months ‘ jail on Monday ( Jun 10 ) for one charge of unauthorised access to computer material. Another command was taken into account when deciding the sentencing. &nbsp,

His national last day of work was November 16, 2022, and his deal with NCS was terminated in October 2022 as a result of bad work efficiency.

According to court records, Kandula felt” confused and upset” when he was fired as he felt he had performed also and “made great contributions” to NCS during his career.

He left NCS and went back to India, where he had no other employment.

How HAPPENED&nbsp,

Kandula served on a 20-person team that oversaw the NCS quality assurance ( QA ) computer system between November 2021 and October 2022.

Knowledge communication and technology services are provided by NCS. Before release, the method that Kandula’s past team was in charge of was used to test new applications and programs.

It consisted of about 180 online machines, and no sympathetic data was stored on them. &nbsp,

After Kandula’s agreement expired and he returned to India, he used his computer to use the executive registration qualifications to gain illegal access to the system. Between January 6 and January 17, 2023, he repeated himself.

Kandula returned to Singapore in February of that year after landing a new career. He rented a place with a former NCS employee and accessed NCS’ system again on February 23, 2023 using his Wi-Fi network.

He tested whether system scripts could be used to remove the servers during the two months of unauthorised access. &nbsp,

In March 2023, he accessed NCS ‘ QA structure 13 days. On Mar 18 and 19, he ran a programmed script to remove 180 online machines in the program. His script was written to automatically remove the machines at once. &nbsp,

The following morning, the NCS staff realised the system was impenetrable and tried to fix, but to no effect. They discovered that the machines had been deleted. &nbsp,

A police report was released on April 11, 2023, and the police received many IP addresses that had been uncovered during inside investigations.

The police discovered the text used to carry out the removals on Kandula’s laptop after it was taken by them.

Studies revealed that he had searched for online servers on Google before writing the script, which he had used to code the text.

He was always conscious that he was unfit to access the system after his time with NCS ended. As a result of his deeds, NCS suffered a reduction of S$ 917, 832. &nbsp,
