Ex-MDEC Chairman, Dr Rais Hussin is appointed as MRANTI’s new CEO

  • aims to improve the Malaysian development ecosystem
  • had a turbulent two-year term as MDEC chair from July 2020 to 2022.

Rais Hussin, MRANTI CEO: “Being agile, is not about mere proactive or reactive change. It is about the ‘change of change’, it is about the 'change of change in an accelerated pace'. Nothing is linear anymore.”

Dr. Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff has been named the new CEO of MRANTI, according to the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation ( MRANTI ) Board of Directors( BoD ), which confirms a claim made by the news portal Utusan Malaysia last Sunday.

Effective October 9, Rais may succeed Khairil Anuar Sadat as Acting CEO and Chief Commercial Officer. The MRANTI Board claims that Rais has more than 28 years of experience and a proven track record of leading in different industries.

As CEO, Rais will be in charge of guiding MRANTI’s strategic vision and managing its day-to-day activities. He has a wealth of knowledge in entrepreneurship, engineering, and telecommunications.

During his turbulent two-year tenure as chairman of Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation( MDEC ), Rais gained notoriety. In the first year, he launched a four-phase Reinvent mission to transform MDEC into an organization” institutionalized with the highest level of professionalism, radical transparency, integrity, and performance.”

The noble intentions retaliated against not only long-serving top MDEC workers, some of whom left before their contracts expired and others did not have them renewed, but also against habitat entrepreneurs, primarily due to the lengthy period of time it took to launch a newMDEC grants system. Strong discontent and rage toward Rais were brought on by the time it took to restructure the grants distribution and the overcrowding of grants requiring board approval.

Additionally, there were issues that Rais exceeded his authority as non-executive president and was making some decisions while stumbling under the leadership of Surina Shukri, the company’s then-CEO. Rais had refuted that.

In light of this, the Ministry of Finance has appointed Rais as the country’s primary advancement vehicle, which has been met with almost universal shock and disbelief in the startup ecosystem.

However, MRANTI Chairman Prof. Dr. Rofina Yasmin Othman welcomed the position. ” We are honored to have Dr. Rais as our Director. He will play a key role in guiding MRANTI toward continued victory thanks to his extensive knowledge and in-depth understanding of the importance of technology and innovation.

Rais expressed his honor and excitement at accepting the position of Director at MRANTI. ” MRANTI is a foundational organization for R & amp, D & C, I in Malaysia that quickens ideas to impact.” As a technology and innovation gas and bolstering Malaysia’s technology ecosystem, I am dedicated to making significant contributions to the organization ‘ growth and success.

Being lean, he continued, is not just about taking strategic or reactive action. It is about the” change of change ,” or” the change of course at a faster rate.” Everything is linear any longer.
