Early on Sunday, the body of the past Thai ambassador to Denmark was discovered in a bathroom at his opulent Chatuchak neighborhood home in Bangkok.

According to Pol Capt. Puthipong Hongthong, assistant chief researcher at the Suthisan police station, a group of workers visited the home on Sunday morning in the Chomphon area of the Chatuchak district after making an appointment with the owner to perform some repairs.

The alarm at the front gate was pushed frequently by the workers, but no response was given. They quickly became aware of a bad odor coming from the house and called the police. The three-story home had been secured from the inside. A few days prior, neighbors claimed to have noticed a scent filling the air.

The lighting in a room was still on when the police arrived. They searched the home and discovered a system in the second-floor bathroom. Three to four paper sheets were placed on top of the body.

The figure was later determined to be that of Wichit Chitwiman, a 63-year-old past Thai embassy to Denmark.

The apartment had been renovated, and the job was finished about a month ago, the officers discovered after an inspection. The home was occupied by the former diplomat only.

To determine the cause of death, Suthisan officers were looking into the matter.
