MANILA: According to official tallies released on Saturday ( Feb 3 ), there have been 14 fatalities as a result of landslides and floods brought on by torrential rain in the southern Philippines over the past week.
Tens of thousands of people have been forced into emergency shelters as a result of weather that has pounded parts of Mindanao, the nation’s second-largest peninsula, on and off for weeks.
In the rocky gold mining state of Davao de Oro, where it experienced unrelenting storms, at least 10 people perished in recent days.
Provincial information officer Fe Maestre told AFP,” I have n’t experienced that kind of heavy and continuous rain before.”
Crisis officials told AFP that four people were killed in floods in Maragusan and Monkayo municipalities, and three of the 10 fatalities in Davao de Oro were reported in the New Bataan town.
Three more people drowned in distinct instances in the Davao de Oro towns of Pantukan and Maco.
