Crew member reportedly injured after ‘unauthorised boarding’ of tanker outside Singapore waters

SINGAPORE: A Singapore-registered chemical tanker was boarded without authorisation in the Singapore Strait on Friday ( Feb 28 ) morning, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore ( MPA ) said in a media release.

Around 7 a.m., the vehicle, Basset, was escorted from Singapore’s regional lakes in the Singapore Strait, a body of water that separates Singapore from the Indonesian island of Batam.

A staff member apparently suffered injuries during the event. The nature of the board was no farther disclosed by MPA.

MPA’s assertion, sent at 9.20am, stated a skilled departure for the wounded staff member was in development. &nbsp,

No Singaporean staff members are aboard, and all of the staff is still on board.

The Singapore Police Coast Guard and Singapore Civil Defense Force are currently assisting the ship as it anchors in Singapore lakes.

According to VesselFinder, the BASSET is&nbsp, a chemistry ship that was built in 2019 and sails under the Singapore emblem. &nbsp, The pesticide ship has a diameter of 183m and a diameter of 32m.

The MPA announced that it is broadcasting health messages to warn ships in the area.

Navigation security in the Singapore Strait remains intact, according to MPA.
