This lack of recognition isn’t limited to old folks either. Just a few weeks ago on Racial Harmony Time, a junior college student dressed up in conventional Arab attire plus mimed mock executions on college students with black hand bags over their mind, prompting police research.

Racial harmony, since Prime Minister Shelter Hsien Loong lately wrote in a Fb post, is still a work in progress.   He said: “Our racial harmony is not perfect, and we continue to be learning and developing as a nation. As long as we do not take this peace for granted and work together to protect our common room, we will get there. ”

Grassroots groups plus campaigns have striven to enlarge the space for open and frank dialogue. Whenever racially charged situations are uploaded in order to social media, they immediately trigger reactions plus comments. For instance,   the viral cut of the polytechnic lecturer making racist comments to an interracial few   sparked soul-searching of our own assumptions about ethnic harmony.

It also provided people a chance to voice their own tales. Mr Sharvesh Leatchmanan, co-founder and publisher of Minority Voices, which serves as platform for minorities to share their experiences of discrimination, said he or she   received more than a 100 submissions   after that virus-like incident.
