KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Thai Group posted a net profit of THB2.12bil (RM257.04mil)in the first half of 2022, a 121.6% jump over its performance in the same period last year as the group reined in operating expenses and expected credit losses.

“Operating expenses decreased by THB229.7mil or 7.4% year-on-year, largely due to better optimisation of cost management.
“This consequently improved the cost-to-income ratio to 52.8% in 6M22 compared to 56.3% in 6M21,” it said.
On a y-o-y basis, CIMB Thai said operating income was impacted by an 8.2% decline in net interest income due to lower interest income on loan and hire purchase business.
Consequently, the bank’s net interest margin (NIM) over earning assets stood at 2.8% in 6M22 compared to 3.2% in 6M21.
However, CIMB Thai’s net fee and service income increased 26.7% on the back of higher insurance fees.
