Chopper-wielding man charged over attacks in Commonwealth that injured 7, remanded for medical examination

SINGAPORE: On Monday ( Feb 2 ), a man who is suspected of being responsible for the multi-pronged attack in Commonwealth Avenue andnbsp was charged with the injuries of one of the seven alleged victims.

In the court’s violence registration halls, which are not accessible to the general public or the internet, Joseph Lau Jin Hua, 20, was charged.

Typically, this occurs while the accused man is in the hospital.

Lau was accused of intentionally harming Thurairaj Dharshana Kumar by slashing his arm with a” chopper knife” on purpose.

According to the charge sheet, this occurred at around 7.05 p.m. on Saturday in the lift entrance of Block 31, Margaret Drive.

The victim’s arm was cut as a result.

Lau, a Singaporean, may return to court on February 19 after being ordered to be remanded at Changi Prison’s Complex Medical Center for clinical evaluation.

Lau reportedly attacked seven persons with a knife, helicopter, and his bare arms, according to an earlier police statement.

An old man in his 76s and a six-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries are among the alleged victims.

According to the authorities, Lau had acted alone, and there were no signs to indicate that the event was a mistake.

Five members of the public held Lau until the police showed up and took him into custody at Queens Peak Condominium at 1 Dundee Road, about 400 meters ahead. Lau was seen running and holding a helicopter.

According to the police, Lau has no legal history.

If found guilty of intentionally hurting someone with a dangerous weapon, he could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison, fined, caned in jail, or given any mixture of these penalties.
