The Chinese embassy held a star-studded celebration marking China’s 73rd National Day on Monday with a message highlighting Beijing’s support for Thailand hosting the Apec summit in November.
Welcoming guests at the Shangri-La Hotel were Han Zhiqiang, the Chinese ambassador, and his wife.
The guests included House Speaker, Chuan Leekpai; Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul; Army chief, Gen Narongpan Chitkeawtae; as well as former premier Abhisit Vejjajiva and opposition leader Dr Cholnan Srikaew.
Mr Han said it was the first National Day event to be held in two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He described the celebration as a reunion of close friends that became closer through trying to overcome global public health challenges.
Mr Han also affirmed Beijing’s support for Thailand hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit and the continued forging of bilateral ties.
