Can Xue: The Chinese author who could win a Nobel prize

She is a Chinese writer who is not well-known in China, but that could quickly alter if she wins this month’s Nobel laureate in Literature.

It was one of the most turbulent times in the 20th century, and Can Xue is also aware of this.

She was one of eight children and was born just a few years prior to China’s Cultural Revolution, which engulfed the nation in nearly ten years of unrest and violence.

Her father, an editorial manager at a paper, was sentenced to the land and forced into human labor during the radical Communist trend. Her mom, who was employed by the same magazine, was compelled to follow suit.

She was unable to maintain her education as a result, graduating simply from secondary school.

Her book The Last Lover took home the 2015 Best Translated Book Award for literature. For her book” Passion in the New Millennium ,” she had recently made the International Booker Prize longlist.

She lists well-known American authors as major forces in her writing, including Kafka, Tolstoy, Shakespeare, and Dante.
