Cable car passengers stranded after system error on Mount Faber Line

SINGAPORE:   Eighteen individuals were left stranded within six cable car cabins for a minimum of half an hour on Wed evening (Jul 27) due to an “operating system error”.    

The incident occurred on the ropeway’s Mount Faber Series at 9. 14pm and the  operating-system had to be rebooted, mentioned a spokesperson for the operator Mount Faber Leisure Group on Friday.

“Before the system could be restarted, however , the wire car cabins were required to be came back to the nearest place for guests in order to disembark safely. In-cabin announcements were made to inform guests in regards to the temporary stoppage, ” the spokesperson stated in response to CNA’s query.

“We were in constant marketing communications with the affected people via the in-cabin intercom and our services hotline. Regular improvements were provided during the entire duration to give assurance and ensure their safety and well-being. ”

The cabin return procedure was activated using a secondary system with 9. 47pm, and all passengers alighted by 10. 55pm.

“All guests disembarked at the cable vehicle stations safely, with no injuries or healthcare issues, and our own staff on-ground made support to ensure their particular well-being, ” the particular spokesperson said, including that the incident failed to involve any mechanical fault.

The Mount Faber Range runs between channels at Mount Faber and Sentosa, using a station at HarbourFront in between.

The system error was rectified and normal operations on the line resumed upon Thursday morning.

“After all the people had disembarked, our team restarted the system to solve the operating system mistake. This was done in compliance with the cable car manufacturer’s operating guide, ” the spokesperson said.

“The cable car service started again normal operations the next morning after all required safety checks had been completed.

The particular spokesperson added the Singapore Cable Car has safety measures plus secondary systems in place that enable secure service recovery.

“We also perform regular maintenance and emergency preparedness exercises with the Singapore Civil Defence Force to validate operational programs and build strength, ” the spokesperson said.
