BTS could perform while doing military service

Military provider may not prevent BTS from performing, the South Korean defence minister has said.

Normally, all guys in the country must provide in the military involving the ages of 18 and 28, for approximately 20 months.

In 2020, exceptions were made to get BTS members in order to delay their services until they were thirty.

With the oldest member of the K-pop band, Jin, turning thirty next year, the issue comes into focus within South Korea.

There is parliamentary debate in the land over shortening provider to three weeks.

And speaking about BTS, minister Lee Jong-sup said: “There might be a way to give them an opportunity to practice and carry out together. ”

Army service is controversial in South Korea, as men should fulfil their duties as part of efforts to defend against nuclear-armed neighbor North Korea.

Through the years, some men have gained exemptions – either being allowed to delay service or do shorter service : including Olympics and Asian Games medal winners and classical musicians and dancers who win best prizes at specific competitions.

Tottenham footballer Son Heung-min completed his three-week required military service in 2020 – and gained an award for the best performance.

Son had gained an exemption from the mandatory 21-month military service after helping South Korea earn the 2018 Asian Games.

BTS announced within June they were having a break to grow plus pursue solo projects for a while, but stated they were not splitting for good.

At a parliamentary session, defence ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) Lee Jong-sup declared that by allowing BTS to continue performing, the particular military could assist national interests with out affecting the shrinking pool of assets due to low birth rates.

“As lots of people highly value [artists serving] within the military, that may help boost their popularity a lot more, ” he said.

BTS have been credited as being one of the large influences in distributing Korean culture around the globe, with the Oxford book announcing last year it was adding 26 Korean words to the edition.
