Billion-dollar money laundering case: Two former bank employees, ex-driver to be charged in court

SINGAPORE: Three men, aged between 26 and 41, will be charged in court on Thursday ( Aug 15 ) with various offences linked to one of the country’s largest money laundering cases. &nbsp,

Su Baolin, Vang Shuiming, and Lin Baoying, three of the ten immigrants who were found guilty and imprisoned for laundering illegal money and other crimes, were included in their customers ‘ list of previous bank relationship professionals. &nbsp,

Su Binghai, who is already wanted by the authorities for his role in admitted money laundering offences, was the other person’s individual drivers.

The authorities said on Wednesday that” their cases relate to a group of people who were found guilty of laundering the revenues of international organized crime actions in Singapore and others who are suspected of doing the same but have not returned to Singapore to encounter inquiries since the investigation started.” &nbsp,

One of Singapore’s biggest money-laundering investigations started in 2021 with information about a group of immigrants allegedly using fake papers to dirty money there. In August 2023, nine people and one female were simultaneously detained in wealthy lands around the area, with roots in China.

The final of the ten violators was given a June sentence. They have since been deported and served their prisons sentences. &nbsp,

THE Two Gentlemen

The second banks worker, a 26-year-old Chinese nationwide, was a marriage director employed by a overseas bank incorporated in Singapore.

Su Baolin and Vang were two of his customers. &nbsp,

The man allegedly allegedly helped Su Baolin by signing a phony loan agreement to defraud another lender about the resource of the deposit that was made into Su Baolin’s bank account somewhere in or around December 2020 according to investigations. &nbsp,

He was also allegedly in possession of S$ 481, 678 ( US$ 366, 500 ) of cash collected on behalf of Su Baolin on Dec 15, 2020, for which he has been unable to provide a satisfactory account of its provenance, said the police. &nbsp,

Between Apr 19, 2021 and Apr 25, 2021, the man allegedly forged a product file to steal the lender in which he was working as to the cause of Vang’s money, thus allowing the loan of SS$ 999, 980 into Vang’s bank accounts on Mar 29, 2021.

He faces a full of ten fees. &nbsp,

The next bank worker, a 35-year-old Chinese nationwide, was a marriage director employed by the local branch of a foreign-incorporated banks whose clients included Lin. &nbsp,

Before submitting the final version to the bank as a supporting document, Lin claimed to have received various changes to a forged tax document before facilitating the opening of a bank account in Switzerland. &nbsp,

He faces one charge. &nbsp,

The remaining individual, a 41-year-old Singaporean, was the personal driver to Su Binghai, who is currently wanted by the police.

He is accused of lying to the police about leaving any valuables in his possession and of obstructing the course of justice by disposing of four of Su Binghai’s vehicles. He also faces two counts.

Director of the Commercial Affairs Department, David Chew, said:” We take a very serious view of the laundering of criminal proceeds through our financial system. As significant financial system gatekeepers, banks have security measures in place to identify and reject illegal funds.

We rely on relationship managers as the bridge between clients and banks to ensure this by bankers in general and relationship managers in particular. Under our laws, those who assist clients in evading their financial institutions’ due diligence procedures or who forge documents to conceal the true nature of their assets must be dealt with vigorously.
