Australia unveils new defence strategy, with eye on 'coercive' China

SYDNEY :  On Wednesday ( April 17 ), Australia unveiled its first National Defense Strategy, putting a new emphasis on deterring China’s” coercive tactics” in a region that is currently on the verge of conflict.

The 80-page record presents a dreary assessment of Pacific security and details a significant increase in defense spending to restructure Australia’s military to cope with the situation.

The new plan was presented by Defence Minister Richard Marles, who stated that the positive beliefs that governed defense preparing after the Cold War had long since been dissipated.

The word warns that” China has employed aggressive tactics in pursuit of its corporate goals” and makes Australia prone to adversaries who stifle trade or block access to vital air and sea routes.

” We are a seafaring trading area state,” Marles said.

Because of the magnitude of harm that an adversary can cause to our nation without actually having to set foot on American soil, he said,” the conquest of Australia is an implausible prospect in any circumstances.”
