Alarm bells ring as Covid situation worsens

Over the past few weeks, authorities have been raising concerns about the worsening Covid- 19 situation, with health authorities putting out warnings about the new Omicron sub-types ‘ spread.

Dr Yong Poovorawan, a microbiologist in the Paediatrics Department of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine, posted a notice on his Instagram page on Monday about the HK2 sub- variant now spreading, saying it is more deadly than the JN1 sub- variant behind most of this year’s Covid- 19 cases.

However, the Mahidol University Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital’s Center for Medical Genomics posted a Facebook message about the KP2 Omicron sub-variety’s spread.

According to the heart, KP2, alongside its girl thread- variants: KP 1 and KP4, falls into a party nicknamed by experts as “FLiRT”, for their gene design, higher potential to spread and escape people’s defense system.

Researchers around the world are warning about the “FLiRT” thread- varieties, said the heart.

According to the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data ( GISAID), at least nine cases in Thailand were identified as the KP2 variant, according to data released by the World Health Organization.

The heart even warned about the KP3 Omicron thread- version, which had the potential to spread quickly in the country.

The Department of Disease Control ( DDC ) said that in the week ending on Monday, at least 1, 880 people were hospitalised with Covid- 19, which equates to 269 cases daily.

Of them, 11 folks died. The majority of the subjects were categorized as being in the at-risk party, which included pregnant women, seniors, and people with seven high-risk illnesses.

Since January, around 15, 000 persons have been hospitalised with Covid- 19 with 104 incidents reported, the DDC said, adding that the disorder situation continues to increase.
